Keeping The Immune System Strong

Spring is around the corner! Warmer days usually means an end to the dreaded flu season. Unfortunately, we’re in the midst of a global health emergency. We send out our hearts out to anyone affected by the outbreak.

Staying healthy is all about keeping the immune system strong, and one of the best ways to do that is through food! Now’s the perfect time to load up on these  delicious, immunity boosting superfoods!

  1. Blueberries

Blueberries are the wunderkind of the food world.  Aside from tasting amazing, it’s incredible fiber and antioxidant content has made waves for everything from weight loss to cancer prevention. Turns out, all those antioxidants also make it a powerful immune booster. Fresh blueberries can be pricey and aren’t quite in season yet, but don’t despair. Frozen blueberries are just as nutritious and delicious. Grab a handful (or three) guilt- free or use them in amp up any smoothie or sweet treat!

2. Garlic

Taking garlic to prevent colds is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Turns out, this advice is more than an old wives tale. Thanks to powerful sulfur compounds and allicin, viruses hate garlic as much as vampires

3. Bell Peppers

Everyone knows about the immune boosting power of Vitamin C. Citrus fruits get all the credit for having Vitamin C, but guess what- Bell peppers have more than 3x the vitamin C as oranges! Enjoy them raw in salads or as a snack. Like them cooked? Throw them in a stir fry or in the oven for delicious roasted peppers to best preserve the nutrients

4. Spinach

Like blueberries, spinach is chock full of powerful antioxidants and flavonoids. Unfortunately, not everyone’s a fan. Don’t worry. Blending it into a smoothie or into delicious recipes like these pancakes (  is a good way to hide the taste- not the benefits!
